Scientists prepare for doomsday with lunar vault

Scientists at the University of Arizona have made preparations for doomsday known, with plans to build an underground lunar ark on the moon.

According to the scientists, the lunar ark would be filled with millions of seed, spore, sperm and egg samples from Earth’s species, hidden in a network of tubes on the moon.

This is with the view to provide a genetic backup for the planet in the event of a doomsday scenario.

The lunar ark, dubbed a “modern global insurance policy, would be hidden in a series of caves and tunnels under the moon’s surface.

CNN quoted the scientists to have said any move to build such a bunker is a long way off.

Meanwhile, a similar doomsday vault known as The Global Seed Vault exists on Earth.

Home to under a million seed samples, it is located on a remote island in Svalbard, an archipelago located between Norway and the North Pole.
