The Igbo Community Association in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, has appealed to President Bola Tinubu to order the release of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, in response to growing public agitation.
He warned that the continued detention of Kanu, who has been in custody for over four years, could become a major distraction to the administration if not handled swiftly.
Ellis-Ezenekwe noted that many Nigerians view Kanu’s prolonged detention without conviction as an act of injustice, recalling that he was abducted from Kenya and returned to Nigeria by government agents.
He urged the President to use his executive powers to resolve the matter peacefully, describing Tinubu as a “clever and wise politician” who must also demonstrate wisdom as a democratic leader.
“The people want Nnamdi Kanu to be freed. He deserves justice. It is not illegal for a people to agitate for their rights,” he added.
