#EndSARS: Tension in Calabar as security agents flood streets over rumours of attack

There is tension in Calabar, Cross River State capital as security operatives including Nigeria Soldiers, Police, Civil Defence and others stormed the streets, manning strategic locations in the state.

It was gathered on Monday that the operatives were deployed to the eleven-eleven roundabout along Calabar Road, Marian Road, government establishments, Freedom Park and other places suspected to be flashpoints of attack on innocent people.

There are rumours across the state that some criminal elements outside the state were planning to unleash mayhem, vandalize government infrastructures and steal valuables under the auspices of End SARS protest.

When contacted, on Monday, the Police Public Relations Officer in the State, DSP Irene Ugbo said the deployment of security operatives was to tame hoodlums who are planning to invade the state under the name of End SARS protest.

“For now there is no protest of any kind in the state, our men and other security agencies have been deployed to major streets, roads, strategic locations and flashpoints and we are ready for any eventuality

“All that you have seen are strategies put in place by the Commissioner of Police, CP Abdulkadir Jimoh to prevent any occurrence. We are ready for any eventuality, if you look around, you will see that policemen and other security agents are on red alert.

“The State Government has just given us some vehicles and other logistics and these items have been deployed for effective use. Our men and other agencies are there to maintain peace and order” She explained.
