ABDUCTION: Zamfara govt refutes rumours of school girls release

The Zamfara State Commissioner for Security and Home Affairs, Hon. Abubakar Mohammed Dauran has refuted reports of the release of 317 female students abducted from Government Girls Secondary School, GGSS, Jangebe in Talata Mafara Local Government Area, last week.

There had been widespread reports of the release of the girls earlier in the day after a purported government official made the claims on Channels television.

However, a media aide to Governor Matawalle, Yusuf Idris, told newsmen that efforts were still ongoing to secure the release of the girls.

Idris said the governor had just concluded a meeting with traditional rulers in the state, towards ensuring the safe return of the students.

The commissioner of police in the state, Abutu Yaro, also confirmed that the girls were yet to be released.

“I want to call the attention of the good people of Zamfara State, they should disregard any fake news regarding the release of the abducted students of GGSS Jangebe by one national daily. It’s not true. But, Alhamdulillah, the state government and securities are there trying their best,” he said in a short message he made available to our reporter.
