Over a week after the Yoruba activist, Sunday Adeyemo (aka Sunday Igboho) visited Ogun State to chase away Fulani herdsmen from Igua, the herders are said to have retaliated.
It was gathered that the herdsmen invaded Owode Ketu community, attacking the villagers around 5am on Thursday.
Confirming the incident, the House of Assembly member representing Ketu Constituency, Hon Wahab Haruna Abiodun, said in a statement that, “It is so sad that Ketu Constituency is bathing in the blood of constituents.”
According to him, “Fulani herders attacked Owode ketu in Eggua ward and killed no fewer than six people, leaving scores seriously injured.”
The lawmamker said that two other farmers, after being matcheted, were thrown into Yewa River along Eggua road from the bridge.
“This was a reprisal attack by herdsmen as they came in hundreds following the visitation of Sunday Igboho to the area,” he said.
Abiodun called on Governor Dapo Abiodun to instruct the Police Commissioner in Ogun State and other security agents to move swiftly to the area so that the issue will not escalate further, saying “this is the time we need the Amotekun corps to come out and support the Nigeria Police Force.”
The incident is coming barely four days after the killing of a farmer, Dele Olowoniyi, by suspected Fulani herdsmen in Yewa axis of Ogun State,
Recall that a farmer, Dele Olowoniyi was slaughtered in Oha village, Imeko around 1:30am on Sunday.
