Police arrest UniUyo student for allegedly stabbing roommate to death

 


The Akwa Ibom State Police Command said it has apprehended one Samuel Cosmos Akpan, a student of the University of Uyo who allegedly stabbed a fellow student, one Ubong Pelen Solomon to death.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the State, SP Odiko Macdon who disclosed this in a press statement on Monday, said the corpse of the victim has been deposited at the mortuary.

It was gathered that the suspect, Samuel and the deceased, Ubong were roommates at Idak Okpo Street near the campus and they had little altercation on Saturday morning, August 7, 2021.

The suspect, it was learnt, in a rage, took a knife from the room and stabbed his roommate (who just buried his mother the previous day) at the back.

Ubong was later rushed to the University Medical Centre by some students but he later gave up the ghost due to excessive loss of blood.

According to the statement, “the Akwa Ibom State Police Command, acting on a report received from one Solomon Pelen Solomon that his brother, one Ubong Pelen Solomon was stabbed by one Samuel Cosmos Akpan after an altercation on 7/8/2021 at about 10am, and that he was taken to UniUyo Medical Centre where he gave up the ghost.

“Operatives of ‘A’ Division, Barracks Road responded swiftly, located and arrested the suspect at Idah Okpo Lane, Off Urua Ikpa Road, Uyo.

“The scene of crime was visited and the corpse deposited at the mortuary.”

“Suspect has confessed to the crime and will have his day in court at the completion of investigation,” he said.
