Police rescues boy in Lagos, arrests neighbour for alleged kidnap


The Lagos State Police Command has apprehended two suspected kidnappers, Desmond Ikechukwu Okafor (21) and Egwuonwu Gift Iyke (34).

Adekunle Ajisebutu, Public Relations Officer in a statement on Saturday said they conspired and kidnapped 8-year-old Daniel Chukwudi on 11th July, 2021.

The crime was executed by the victim’s neighbour, Okorafor, who used his access to the family to lure the victim from his parents’ home at Aboru in Ipaja.

Okoroafor took Chukwudi to Ajangbadi area of Lagos where he was kept for six days before a successful rescue operation.

One day after the act, the suspects reached out to the parents, demanded N2.5million as ransom and threatened to kill the victim.

The State Intelligence Bureau opened an investigation and launched a manhunt which led to the arrest of the abductors in their hideouts.

The Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu has directed that the suspects be charged to court.

Odumosu also ordered operatives to bust other kidnappers and criminal elements in Lagos.
