UCL: He controlled the game – Guardiola hails Man City star after 3-1 loss to Madrid

Manchester City boss, Pep Guardiola has hailed Jack Grealish for controlling the game during his side’s Champions League semi-final second-leg tie against Real Madrid on Wednesday.

Guardiola watched as Real Madrid won 3-1 against his team at the Santiago Bernabeu to qualify for the Champions League final.

Riyad Mahrez put Guardiola’s side ahead on the night and 5-3 up on aggregate with under 20 minutes to go.

However, a late Rodrygo’s brace and Karim Benzema’s strike ensured Real Madrid defeated the Premier League champions.

Real Madrid will now face Liverpool in the Champions League final later this month.

Speaking after the game, Guardiola told Man City’s website: “After the goal we controlled it. We found the game, we arrived at the byline.

“Jack (Grealish) helped us to control the game and unfortunately, he could not finish when we were close.”

Manchester City will now have to pick themselves up with their Premier League title hopes still in the balance.

The Citizens will welcome Newcastle United to the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.
