Dark Boxing Day: Lagos seals Wonderland after fun seeker’s electrocution

The Lagos State Government on Monday ordered the closure and suspension of activities at the children’s section of the state Wonderland after a yet-to-be-identified guest was electrocuted.

It was gathered that the sad incident led to pandemonium as fun seekers hurriedly left the facility.

The state government, in its quick response through the Lagos State Safety Commission, stormed the scene and sealed the Wonderland facility.

Director-General of the Lagos State Safety Commission, Lanre Mojola, who in a joint inspection with the State Task Force team, noted that the move would prevent fatalities to children who visit the event, added that the closure was imperative to prevent further exposure of attendees to accidents that could lead to injuries and fatalities.

While accusing the event venue owner, Ezekiel Adamu, of refusing to implement safety measures prescribed by the commission despite several meetings at the onset of the project, Mojola said ”it has become urgent and pertinent to shut down the facility until all infractions are corrected to prevent users from further exposure to risk especially children and to ensure that other lined up events are safe for Lagos residents.

“No individual or institution is bigger than the state, and we would continue to ensure the safety of Lagosians as they go about enjoying the festive season.”

The safety commission boss further warned other operators in the hospitality sector to desist from flouting all safety guidelines of the state, even as he urged residents to socialise responsibly.
