The 10th Senate, led by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, has passed more than 50 bills into law in just over two years, according to Kenny Okolugbo, Consultant for Communications and Strategy in the Office of the Senate President.
In a post shared on his official Facebook page, Okolugbo described the legislative achievements as “uncommon,” noting that the Senate has remained active in shaping national policies despite fiscal and operational challenges.
“The 10th Senate has not only passed over fifty bills but also ensured that key legislations such as the Tax Reform Bill, NELFUND Act, and the establishment of five regional development commissions were signed into law,” Okolugbo stated. “These initiatives have had direct impacts on education, social welfare, and local development across the country.”
He further emphasized the Senate’s commitment to oversight and policy intervention, highlighting its role in extending capital projects for the 2024 and 2025 budgets and organizing summits to address national security concerns.
Okolugbo also lauded Akpabio’s leadership, describing him as “a man in a hurry to achieve results,” comparing his current drive in the Senate to his performance as Akwa Ibom governor between 2007 and 2015—an era he said “set the tone for the developmental momentum now evident in the legislature.”
According to Okolugbo, the Senate plans to hold town hall meetings across the six geopolitical zones to brief citizens, particularly young people, on its achievements and gather feedback on lingering national issues.
“The Senate remains committed to delivering results, and under the leadership of President Akpabio, Nigerians are being kept informed of the progress being made,” he concluded.
