Governor Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto State has issued a stern warning to critics and public commentators, cautioning them against politicizing the state’s security challenges.
Speaking in Silame Local Government Area during a condolence visit to communities affected by recent bandit attacks, Aliyu said security matters are “too sensitive and fragile” to be turned into political debates or careless criticism.
He condemned the growing trend of using insecurity for political gain, stressing that such actions undermine collective efforts to restore peace and stability.
“Those using the situation for political advantage are only emboldening criminals and weakening public confidence in our security efforts,” the governor said.
Aliyu warned that his administration would not tolerate individuals or groups who use activism or public commentary to discredit genuine security operations, urging residents to prioritize unity over division.
He revealed that collaboration between the state government and security agencies is yielding tangible results, with ongoing operations aimed at restoring lasting peace across rural communities.
Our administration will sustain its efforts until peace is fully restored,” Aliyu assured.
The governor also decried reports that some residents act as informants to bandits, describing such conduct as “a betrayal of trust and humanity.” He disclosed that a new bill would soon be presented before the State House of Assembly to impose stiff penalties on anyone found aiding or abetting banditry.
No government can win the war against insecurity without the cooperation of its citizens,” he said. “People must rise above political differences and join hands in the fight for peace and survival.”
Aliyu added that the state government has provided operational vehicles, logistics, and intelligence support to all security formations, reaffirming his commitment to restoring normalcy across Sokoto State.
During his visit to Silame, the governor presented ₦2 million and five bags of rice to each of the 33 families of victims killed in the recent attack — totaling ₦66 million and 165 bags of rice.
He urged citizens to remain vigilant, report suspicious movements, and provide credible intelligence to security agencies, emphasizing that safeguarding lives and communities is a shared responsibility that transcends politics.
