Kano woman remanded for allegedly defaming police officer

A Kano State court has remanded a woman, Aisha Ibrahim Na’ibawa, in a correctional facility over allegations of defaming a police officer.

Aisha was accused of spreading false claims that the officer was involved in drug abuse and soliciting relationships with men.

During the hearing, the prosecuting counsel, Barrister Awaisu Sani Lawan, read the charges before the court, but the defendant pleaded not guilty.

Her counsel, Barrister Aminu Nura, applied for bail arguing that his client was entitled to bail pending trial. The presiding judge, however, reserved ruling on the bail application until October 23.

In the meantime, the court ordered that Aisha Ibrahim Na’ibawa be remanded in a correctional facility pending the determination of her bail application.
