Kidnappers abduct immigration officer’s wife in Lagos, demand ₦7m ransom

The wife of a serving immigration officer has been abducted by suspected kidnappers in Lagos State, with her captors reportedly demanding a ransom of ₦7 million for her release.

According to sources, the incident occurred late Sunday night in the Ipaja area of Lagos, when the woman was returning home from church. The assailants, said to be armed, intercepted her vehicle and whisked her away to an unknown location.

Eyewitnesses told reporters that the abductors operated swiftly, shooting sporadically into the air to scare residents before escaping with the victim. The operation was said to have lasted less than ten minutes.

A family member, who pleaded anonymity due to the sensitivity of the matter, confirmed that the kidnappers contacted them on Monday morning, demanding ₦7 million as ransom and warning them not to involve the police.

They called using her phone and told us to raise ₦7 million if we ever want to see her alive. We are terrified and begging the government and security agencies to help us,” the family member said.

When contacted, the Lagos State Police Command spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, said the command was aware of the incident and that efforts were ongoing to secure the woman’s release and arrest the perpetrators.

We have launched an investigation and are working with relevant agencies to ensure the victim is safely rescued,” Hundeyin assured

The abduction has sparked tension in the area, with residents calling for increased security patrols, especially at night.

This latest incident adds to the growing concerns over the rising wave of kidnappings in Lagos and its environs, prompting calls for more proactive measures to protect residents and curb criminal activities in the state.
