The Police Service Commission (PSC) has introduced a whistleblowing policy aimed at curbing corruption and malpractice in the recruitment of officers into the Nigeria Police Force.
Announcing the policy on Wednesday, PSC spokesman Ikechukwu Ani said Nigerians are encouraged to report incidents such as solicitation or acceptance of bribes whether in cash, gifts, or favours in exchange for recruitment slots. Other reportable offenses include manipulation of test results (written, physical, or medical), falsification of credentials with the knowledge of officials, sexual harassment, extortion, ghost candidates, and impersonation during exams or screenings.
Ani explained that the Commission is committed to ensuring that police recruitment is “transparent, merit-based, and fair,” noting that the whistleblowing policy provides a secure channel for reporting corruption, fraud, or malpractice during the process.
The goal is to uphold the principles of good governance and strengthen national security by ensuring only the most qualified and upright candidates are enlisted, he said.
The spokesman emphasized that the initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. Under Priority Area 2 (National Security), a credible and professional Police Force is regarded as the cornerstone of national security. Priority Area 8 (Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption) also highlights the government’s zero-tolerance stance on corruption.
The Commission assured whistleblowers that their identities will remain confidential and protected from retaliation, intimidation, or victimization under Nigerian law. All credible reports, it added, will be promptly and independently investigated, with decisive legal and disciplinary action taken against offenders.
