The Osun State Police Command has called for peaceful celebrations ahead of the Eid-el-Fitr, assuring residents of adequate security across the state.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Gotan and signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, the Command noted that it had mapped out comprehensive security strategies to ensure the safety of lives and property before, during and after the festivities.
According to the police, “strategic deployments of personnel have been carried out to key locations, including mosques, prayer grounds, markets and other public places across the state”.
“The Command hereby assures the good people of Osun State and all travellers of its readiness and preparedness to guarantee safety in all major and strategic locations,” the statement said.
The statement added that the measures were in line with the constitutional mandate of the police to maintain law and order and ensure public safety at all times.
The Command urged parents and guardians to caution their children and wards against engaging in misconduct, unlawful gatherings or any activities capable of disrupting public peace.
It also appealed to religious and community leaders to continue promoting messages of harmony, mutual respect and lawful conduct beyond the Ramadan period.
Motorists and other road users were advised to adhere strictly to traffic rules and regulations to prevent accidents during the celebrations.
The statement encouraged members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movements to the nearest police station or through designated emergency lines.
It also wished all Muslim faithful and visitors a peaceful and joyous Sallah celebration.
