A senior Iranian military officer has warned that another war between Iran and the United States could be imminent, as tensions rise over stalled negotiations.
Speaking on May 2, Mohammad Jafar Asadi said a renewed conflict between Iran and the United States is likely, accusing Washington of failing to keep its commitments.
His remarks came hours after US President Donald Trump said he was unhappy with Iran’s latest proposal.
“At this moment I’m not satisfied with what they’re offering,” Trump told reporters, blaming delays on tremendous discord within Iran’s leadership.
He also raised the possibility of military action but said he would rather avoid it.
“Do we want to go and just blast the hell out of them and finish them forever or do we want to try and make a deal?” he said, adding he would prefer not to choose war on a human basis.
Iran had earlier submitted a draft proposal through Pakistan, though details were not made public.
The conflict, which began in late February involving the US and Israel, has been paused since April 8 following an unsuccessful round of peace talks.
Iran’s judiciary chief, Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejei, said the country is open to dialogue but will not accept imposed conditions. According to him, Iran has never shied away from negotiations but will resist any forced agreement.
