Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike has countered claims that the Supreme Court nullified the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, convention held in Abuja from 29 to 30 March 2026.
According to reports, a Certified True Copy, CTC, of the recent judgement of the apex court on the leadership tussle in the PDP indicated that the faction loyal to Wike lost out in the battle for the party’s soul.
It was also reported that the Supreme Court ruled that the Abuja convention was illegal, affirming the suspension of key leaders in the Wike-backed PDP faction, including Senator Samuel Anyanwu, Kamaldeen Ajibade.
However, in an interview with Arise TV on Saturday night, Lere claimed that the matter of the suspension was “not even mentioned” in both the Appeal and Supreme Courts.
He further argued that “The issue of the March 29 convention was not in the Supreme Court. Supreme Court is not a father Christmas. There was no contention on that. What you did not take to court, the court will not begin to talk about it.
“What went to the Supreme Court was from the Appeal Court. what they are saying is Sam Anyanwu was suspended by the Appeal Court and Supreme Court affirmed his suspension.
“If there was no mention of his name in the Appeal Court judgement, then how would his name suddenly surface in the apex court? His name was not mentioned”.
Asked if the Supreme Court nullified the March 29 convention, Lere Olayinka, said “No it is a lie”.
