2023: Afenifere hasn’t endorsed Tinubu, I can deal with those involved – Adebanjo

Ayo Adebanjo, the acting leader of Afenifere, has insisted that the socio-political group has not endorsed the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television on Monday, Adebanjo also faulted Tinubu’s visit to Reuben Fasoranti.

The former Governor of Lagos had paid a visit to Fasoranti, a founding father of Afenifere, in Akure, the Ondo capital.

During the meeting, Tinubu was pictured bowing his head to receive prayers from Fasoranti.

This came weeks after Adebanjo, another founding father of Afenifere, endorsed the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi.

In March 2021, Fasoranti had handed over the leadership of Afenifere to Adebanjo due to old age.

“Pa Fasoranti phoned me on Friday that Tinubu had phoned him that he wanted to come and that he wanted to say he should not come.

“But I said, ‘no, don’t do that; you are an elder statesman; if he wants to see you, why not’. I then said it is a sort of conspiracy among people who want to divide Afenifere,” Adebanjo said.

When asked if he consulted Fasoranti before he endorsed Obi, Adebanjo replied: “I don’t have to consult him. He handed over the party to me over a year ago. That’s not the way we do it in the Action Group and he knows it.

“I warned Pa Fasoranti not to allow himself to be put into this mess. I can deal with all of them who were there. They weren’t there when we were doing all these things. But I don’t want any diversion at this time. Afenifere is for Obi, hook, line and sinker.”
