Nightmare is over – Aubameyang’s father recounts son’s ordeal at Chelsea

Pierre-Francios Aubameyang, father of former Chelsea striker, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, has said that his son finally has his smile back.

This was following a difficult period for the 34-year-old both in Spain and in West London.

The Gabonese striker recently joined Ligue 1 club Olympique de Marseille from Chelsea.

Pierre-Francois told L’Équipe that Aubameyang endured a “nightmare year” at Stamford Bridge.

Before moving to Chelsea last summer, Aubameyang, 34, was attacked by robbers in Barcelona, who left him with a broken jaw.

Then his role at Stamford Bridge was immediately thrown into jeopardy after Thomas Tuchel was sacked by Chelsea owners and he gradually fell behind in the pecking order under Graham Potter.

He struggled for game time during the majority of his time in West London.

“His jaw was broken by robbers at his home in Barcelona while trying to protect his wife and children,” he told L’Équipe

“At Chelsea, he played with a mask at the start. It could only be a nightmare year.

“Now it’s over. He has a smile. He knows that I’m seeing the light again because I can walk and run since my last operation. And he’s signing for OM,” he said.
