Transfer: Liverpool agree British-record £111m fee with Brighton to sign Caicedo

English Premier League club, Liverpool, have agreed to pay a British record fee of £111m to sign Brighton midfielder, Moises Caicedo.

Liverpool submitted a late-night bid for the Ecuador international on late Thursday night after Caicedo declared his intent to play for the Meyerside Reds.

This comes after Brighton disclosed that it’ll only accept the highest bid for Caicedo, setting Thursday as the deadline.

Caicedo is expected to travel to Liverpool on Friday for medical checks.

Several clubs showed interest in Caicedo, who holds the record for being the youngest Ecuador player to score in the World Cup.

Chelsea were prepared to go to £100m, while Bayern Munich indicated they would pay £90m, Sky Sports reports.

Brighton signed Caicedo for £4.5m from Independiente del Valle in 2021.

Caicedo will become Liverpool’s third major signing of the summer after Alexis Mac Allister, also from Brighton, and fellow midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai from RB Leipzig.

Liverpool sold two of its midfield players, Fabinho, to Al-Ittihad, and Henderson to Al-Ettifaq, for £40 million and £12 million, respectively.
