A Kano State High Court, located at Audu Bako Secretariat, presided by Justice Yusuf Ubale Muhammad has sentenced Jamilu Tukur to 20 years imprisonment for armed robbery and criminal conspiracy.
The incident took place in 2021, in which Jamilu and his accomplice, Usman Aliyu were accused of attacking a woman identified as Bilkisu Haruna with a knife and seized her phone.
Barrister Hafsat Kabir Sunusi presented five witnesses on behalf of the state, while the defendant was represented by his attorney, Barrister Nasir Ibrahim.
After hearing evidence on both sides of the case, the court found the defendant guilty and sentenced him to 20 years imprisonment. and a fine of ₦50,000. The defendant was also sentenced to an additional six months imprisonment or a fine of ₦10,000 for the related offense.
During the trial, officials from the correctional service informed the court that Jamilu’s accomplice, Usman Aliyu, had escaped from the Goron Dutse Juvenile Detention Centre, after he physically overpowered and attack the guards on duty.
